Step 1 of 10
Cultivation
Flax is grown in several Egyptian governorates.
Ten steps, as the partner factory describes them. Photos show the real work.
Step 1 of 10
Flax is grown in several Egyptian governorates.

Step 2 of 10
The flax is harvested when ready and gathered for retting.

Step 3 of 10
Stems are retted in water so the fibre separates from the rest of the stem. No chemical or extra treatments.

Step 4 of 10
Retted stems are spread and dried before processing.

Step 5 of 10
At the partner factory, the fibre is first separated from the stems by machine.

Step 6 of 10
Scutching removes the woody matter, and the fibre is sorted. This is where the fibre is checked for cleanliness and strength.

Step 7 of 10
Hackling combs out short fibre and remaining matter and leaves the long fibre straight and parallel, ready for flax yarn.
Step 8 of 10
Hackled fibre is pressed into high-density bales of 240–280 kg and tied with wire. Labels can carry buyer data.
Step 9 of 10
Export-ready stock is held year-round. Moisture is ≤ 12 %.

Step 10 of 10
Bales are prepared for export from Egypt. Port of loading and Incoterms are confirmed in each quotation.
The fibre is checked during scutching for cleanliness and fibre strength. Fibre strength is tested; the value is given on request.
